Refiner's Forge
|
My name is Jared Lanham and I own Refiner's Forge custom blacksmithing. I picked up blacksmithing as a hobby while at flight school for the Army National Guard at Fort Rucker Alabama. I went to the University of YouTube to learn the trade. After returning from flight school the Lord blessed me and I was able to turn the blacksmithing into a buisness. I serve part time as a helicopter pilot and company commander in the Army Nation Guard, and work full time as a blacksmith on the civilian side. I love the hard physical work of blacksmithing, heating a bar of steel to about 1700 degrees fahrenheit and through different hammering techniques, bending, and twisting, transform it into a functional piece of art. I also enjoy working with customers to bring their one of kind visions to fruition. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife that has supported me in my endeavors and is the best mother to our five boys.

Cathy G. Vaughn is a full-time artist based in Richmond, Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from the University of South Carolina and spent 25+ years working as a professional graphic designer. For the past 8 years, Vaughn has created hand-wrought copper candelabra and fine art copper abstractions. Her leaf abstractions use the chemistry of leaves in concert with organic acids [vinegars and citrus] and her own patina recipes to colorfully and texturally transform the surface of copper sheeting. Her current passion is for collage work, incorporating hand cut copper detailing, hammered texturing, and layering, evocative of quilted construction.
