My name is Avery Groves, born in England UK, and have been residing in the US since 1981. I became a naturalized citizen in 2001. I have been self-employed as a custom jeweler and designer since 1988 specializing in one-of-a-kind creations in 14 and 18kt. gold, and incorporating fine gemstones and rare minerals. I work alone, hand fabricating each piece without castings, and only use bezel setting of stones to frame and enhance each one. This technique produces a very high quality result which highlights the Gem in a unique way which is both uncluttered and classical, allowing the stone to speak as it were.
As I consider my work more of an art form than production, I exhibit it at high quality art fairs mainly in the Eastern US, though I have sold my work in Canada, UK, Switzerland and Japan. Many of these fairs have awarded me with accolades of excellence. Finally, I would say that I strive to make each piece as beautifully as I can with great love and care, and guarantee each one equivocally. |

A native to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, I have spent most of my life exploring the meadows, creeks, and Blue Ridge Mountains collecting "creative data." In my passion for spending time with Mother Nature and love of travel, my artistic inspiration extends beyond rural Virginia, spanning from desert landscapes to coastal dunes.
Through the use of precious metal, clay, fine silver, brass, polymer clay, gemstones, reclaimed leather, and other unique materials, I strive to create artwork that showcases my connection to the natural world as well as iconic Americana motifs. As a mixed-media artist & designer, I use variable approaches & techniques in my jewelry making. I consider myself a combination of naturalist, explorer, creative forager, and artist. In my designing, each piece goes through many intricate stages of evolution which may take several days or even weeks to finalize. From kiln-firing, silver-smithing, hand-sculpting, sewing, cold-working, and etching, the artistic process is multi-faceted, and in the end, I am able to present a truly one-of-a-kind wearable work of art. |

Artistic Origin
|
Hi! I'm Nan Dix founder of Artistic Origin. I specialize in the design and creation of artful pearl and gemstone jewelry using hand knotting and wire work techniques. Each piece is made by hand in my private studio located in Orange, Virginia near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. My jewelry business was born from a lifelong interest in art, design, and nature. As a child I loved to paint, visit art museums, and participate in art shows. I loved to explore the great outdoors and discover mother nature’s greatest treasures in the form of plants, rocks, sea shells, and beautiful sunsets. My work is inspired by my love of art and nature as well as a desire to create a cohesive collection that stands out from the norm. My goal is to create beautiful, timeless pieces that are easy to wear and built to last. Quality is important to me. I source materials made to withstand the elements such as freshwater pearls, gemstones, and parachute thread. My business name reminds me of my roots and to always trust my instincts – Artistic Origin.

Handcrafted jewelry is one of the more recent of my life's meanderings. I became all wrapped up in copper wire in the summer of 2017, and remain quite tangled! I think I'm hooked forever! I love introducing a pretty stone to some wire and watching what happens. I work mostly in copper, but do some silver wire wrapping as well. I love the look of antiqued copper around a stone, so unique pendants comprise the bulk of my work, but I've got lots of lovely earrings and rings too. I'm a recent transplant to this lovely valley and simply love it here. Please take a gander around my website; you might find that one special piece made just for you!

I have been creating these pieces in Rockbridge County for over 35 years. Using mainly precious metals and gemstones, I try and incorporate some movement, often some whimsy, some elements of nature and our surroundings and lately some experiments in achieving a greater harmony through combining chaotic elements. Mainly, I attempt l long term fashionability in true wearable art.
